Teaching Philosophy
Gentle Guidance Instills Confidence
Through a student-centered cognitive apprenticeship approach, I aim to guide learners in skilled and compassionate ultrasound practice. While my teaching style is intuitive, I am anchored by strong beliefs that help me create a safe environment in which learners can reach their full potential. My instinct is to make the highly specialized skill of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) sonography accessible to anyone eager to learn. Because obstetric ultrasound exams often take place in emotionally charged environments, I strive to model a calm presence and a servant-leader mentality. These values ground my teaching and reflect the type of learning environment I want to create—one where learners feel supported, respected, and encouraged to grow.

Solid Foundations
I believe that each ultrasound exam is an opportunity for learning. I purposefully create an inclusive atmosphere for both the patient and the learner by welcoming questions, explaining my actions, and making clinical reasoning visible. This approach helps demystify complex concepts and provides learners with a solid foundation to build upon. Through thoughtful feedback, patience, and clear communication, I guide learners through what can be a stressful and daunting process. I often hear from coworkers, learners, and patients that my presence is reassuring and allows them to feel confident and supported, even in difficult moments. Their feedback reassures me that my philosophy is not only something I believe—it is something that consistently shapes positive learning experiences.
