About Me
From an early age, I was driven by curiosity — eager to try new experiences and explore places beyond my small rural Texas hometown. I dreamed of traveling the world and becoming a writer. Before beginning my formal university education, I travelled to Europe, working as an au pair in Switzerland and staying with an aunt in Germany. That experience expanded my perspective and deepened my desire to explore cultures beyond my own. When I returned home, my sense of wanderlust had only grown stronger. As an avid reader, I had long been captivated by the history and charm of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Inspired by the literature that first sparked my love of storytelling, I applied to study English Literature at university there. At last, I felt I had become the world traveler I had once only imagined.

Bachelor of Arts in English
In 2001, after completing my Bachelor of Arts in English, I moved from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island to Halifax, Nova Scotia, ready to take the next step in my academic journey. My longstanding love of literature and research naturally led me to pursue a Master of Library and Information Studies at Dalhousie University.
After graduating in 2003, I relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where I secured my first professional role as a librarian with the Manitoba Department of Education Library — a position that felt both exciting and affirming of my chosen path.
However, in the aftermath of the immigration changes following September 11, 2001, my post-graduate work visa was significantly delayed. Despite volunteering in my role for a year in hopes of remaining in Canada, I ultimately made the difficult decision to return to Texas and reestablish my footing.

Early Childhood Education and the Public Library
After a brief experience working as a production assistant in the television industry, I relocated to Los Angeles, California, where I discovered that the County of Los Angeles Public Library was hiring. In 2005, I began my career as the Children’s Librarian at the C.M. Brakensiek Public Library in Bellflower, California.
Shortly thereafter, the library became part of The Family Place Libraries, a nationally recognized initiative designed to transform public libraries into welcoming, developmentally appropriate early learning environments for young children and their caregivers. I had the opportunity to implement and lead the program locally — an experience that was both professionally rewarding and personally meaningful.
The program quickly became a valued and well-attended resource within the community. Through this work, I developed a deeper understanding of early childhood development and family engagement. Inspired by the impact of educational programming, I enrolled in early childhood education courses and began, for the first time, to consider a potential transition into the field of education.

From Sonographer to Educator
In 2011, my husband and I relocated to Colorado. I began searching for a full-time position in early childhood literacy within the public library system. After a long and ultimately unsuccessful search, I made the difficult but decisive choice to pursue a new professional direction. I applied to study Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Red Rocks Community College near our home in Arvada.
My interest in sonography had first developed several years earlier and was further encouraged by my sister-in-law, who worked in medical imaging. Returning to school as an adult learner proved transformative. Where I had once been shy and hesitant in my undergraduate and graduate programs, I now approached learning with confidence and curiosity. I was no longer afraid to ask questions. I fully embraced the learning process — and discovered just how much I loved it.
Now, in 2026, as an experienced Maternal–Fetal Medicine (MFM) sonographer, I have once again returned to the classroom. I am currently pursuing a Master of Health Professions Teaching and Technology with the goal of becoming not only a highly skilled MFM sonographer, but also an effective and innovative educator.
Sonography is both intellectually rigorous and deeply rewarding. My aspiration to teach MFM ultrasound and fetal echocardiography has inspired this next chapter of academic growth. This degree represents the intersection of my lifelong love of learning, my commitment to healthcare excellence, and my desire to empower the next generation of sonographers.
